Hereboy’s debut project may be called Sitting Duck, but little about the emerging Boston trio ever sits still. Crafting emotional gut-punches with a custom blend of folk, psychedelia, punk, and art-rock, the band’s debut EP centers on reclaiming agency and pushing back against presumed passivity. Written over two transformative years, Sitting Duck captures the uncertainty, yearning, and defiance of early adulthood — all driven by Sarah Gyurina’s poignant, introspective songwriting.
Since forming, Hereboy has built a dynamic synergy where Gyurina’s solo sketches evolve into cathartic earworms through Jon Wallis’ melodic bass work and Ona Griffin’s precise, driving rhythms. What began as a scrappy three-piece playing Allston basements has grown into a rising recording act under Austin indie label Happen Twice, propelled by a risk-taking ethos that favors realness over programmed perfection.
Their latest single, “We Know,” produced and mixed by Ian Howard, signals a confident step forward. The crisp, art-pop-leaning track pairs Gyurina’s whisper-to-yodel vocal with pulsing momentum and dreamy guitar swells, expanding the band’s sonic palette while holding tight to their emotional core.
Hereboy has steadily built their live résumé across Greater Boston and the Northeast, selling out underground house shows and The Lilypad, appearing at Nice, A Fest, and supporting national acts including JW Francis and Easy Honey. In 2023, their stripped performance of “moonblue” was recognized by WBUR as one of the state’s top Tiny Desk entries.
As Hereboy enters this next chapter, the trio proves their minimal setup is more than enough — they’re not just reflecting on the chaos of life; they’re actively charting a path through it.
