Rick West is a self produced multi-instrumentalist from Nashville, Tennessee. Through the use of lo-fi recording styles, West explores modernity in a fresh, yet familiar way.
Starting his solo project in a small apartment in Boston, MA, while studying jazz drum set at Berklee College of Music, he would hash out cassette-rock demos in his free time, eventually birthing his first EP titled “Excessive Skipping”. Taking in the influence of his studies, as well as his southern roots, West found a twangy, syncopated style in his writing that lit it’s own unique path in the indie-sphere.
After dropping out of college, West moved back to Tennessee to pursue a full-time life in music. He has since picked up session and touring gigs, playing drums for Ritt Momney, Dreamer Boy, Huron John, Wabie, Shane T, and more. Spending most of his time touring and taking session work, West had somewhat taken the backseat with his own writing, until finally piecing together his forthcoming EP titled “genuis”.
Searching for reason in love and it’s inevitable loss, “genuis” touches on complex feelings while remaining eager and optimistic. With nearly 2 years of on and off, meticulous, higher-fi exploration, he crafted songs that would set him apart from his older works, while still maintaining the DIY essence people had grown to know and love him for.
Releasing two singles, “BIG SURPRISE” and “ALL I GOT”, West has set the tone for this new sonic direction. His new single “6 Pack” will be released on Aug 23, soon to be followed by the rest of the project.
