A NOTE FROM CHICO ROMANO ON HIS UPCOMING EP, RELEASING IN MAY VIA HAPPEN TWICE:
“A collection of simple songs I made on the Tascam 388 with additional mixing from my buddy Mike Sansevere. This is the first time I’m playing drums on my own music. I took the least-messed-up two minutes of a drum take that I could find and wrote to it. This was an exercise in patience and in being easier on myself. I had to confront my anxieties about creating “good” music and found comfort in making music that was candid and filled with mistakes. Some will love it, some will hate it—I think there is something special about these kinds of songs. These songs were made free from judgement and free from perfectionism! All instruments performed in one take. No copy and pasting, punch-ins, or fancy DAW stuff.”
The title “Making a Racket” comes from a quote in Richard Hell’s autobiography.
“I love a racket. I love it when it seems like a group is slipping in and out of phase, when something lags and then slides into a pocket, like hitting the number on a roulette wheel…It’s like a baby learning how to walk, or a little bird just barely avoiding a crash to the dirt, or two kids losing their virginity. It’s awkward but it’s riveting, and uplifting and funny”
