Jonny Tex is a Boston band that plays slacker rock with a cowboy streak. Once a messy country cover act kicked off stage mid-residency, they’ve reemerged with tight songs, dry humor, and a strange sense of control. Their music blends post-punk stiffness, Western twang, and pop precision—underscored by a theatrical detachment that plays more like a museum audio guide than a sermon. Tex himself, a former youth-pastor-in-training, plays the role of failed prophet with studied malaise, threading spiritual hangover into songs steeped in Southern gothic and cut with East Coast flair. Their upcoming debut double A-side is a double-barreled blast of post-faith reckoning—music for those fleeing god, seduced by structure, or looking for a place to hang their ego.
