Spirit Ghost is the creative moniker of Alex Whitelaw. Started in 2012 as a bedroom-pop project outside of Providence, Rhode Island, it began simply as Alex’s way to write and record music without waiting on anyone else’s schedule. The early songs were rough around the edges, but over time they grew into something more—good enough to convince friends to join the band… some of whom even stuck around! That steady evolution is what shaped Spirit Ghost into what it is today.

The project has grown far beyond its humble beginnings, developing a fully realized sound that pulls from Alex’s wide pool of influences—garage and surf rock, bossa nova, country—and blends them into something distinctly contemporary while still nodding to the tones and textures of the ’60s.

Spirit Ghost recently signed with Happen Twice to release their upcoming album, arriving in 2026.

Prior releases include the albums Satan’s Hands and Skeleton Surf Rider, as well as the EPs Kicking Gravestones EP, Spirit Ghost, and Single Vol. 1.
