4/21/26: “The Blue Bongo Bobby Show” (single)

The Irons are an alternative Indie band and performative group fronted by Singer/Songwriter/Producer Hayden Havard that formed in Austin Texas in 2017. Their debut album, “Peter Clear Boy”, released in 2018, is the first in a series of concept albums that assume characters representing different landmarks in the hero’s journey. Their latest album “The Blue Bongo Bobby Show”, is the fourth and final installment in this journey, where we take a look at the transformative final moments of a character in distress.

“The Blue Bongo Bobby Show” is a narrative concept album about a kid’s tv show host named Bobby Blue who uses his powers of song and bongo to transform himself into a kid. It’s an album full of dark whimsy and a lush sonic landscape, containing dense storytelling with a balance between irony and sincerity. The preamble writes as such:

“Unsatisfied with his age and the idea of his predestined death, 60-year-old TV personality Bobby Blue offers a performance to God, petitioning to transform into a child. His wish is inexplicably granted, but in the form of a newborn baby. Twelve years later, the infamous episode is shown to the now 12-year-old Bobby Blue, who, in response, confesses his addiction to video games.”

Every element of this album was performed by non-performing members of the band. Most notably the producer, writer, and frontman, Hayden Havard, who substituted his vocals for acclaimed Uruguayan folk artist, Juan Wauters. In February of 2025 he traveled to Wauters hometown in Montevideo Uruguay to workshop and record the character “Bobby Blue.”

The album has undergone intense surgery starting in 2022 after the release of their most recent record “He’s About to Blow.” Since its conception fans have consistently tuned in and now anxiously await the end of the hero’s journey. No one knows where it leads but we know there’s a lot to look forward to!
